Testing out the new wordpress.com post editor after reading some of the comments on it here and there on WWW and I do have to admit the “beep beep boop” loading logo is rather silly and to be honest about it, rather childish as well. However, the initial load time of this new editor was less than 3 seconds contrary to what has been said by indicated by various wordpress.com users.
I also included an image since folks were complaining about the new way images were inserted and edited. So far I see nothing different about image insertion and/or editing that I have seen in the self hosted version of WordPress (currently at 4.1.1) that powers my old site.
I’ve already saved a few drafts and the time from clicking on the “Save Draft” button at the bottom of the editor and the time for the editor to be ready again was less than 3 seconds so overall I see no real difference between the speed of the “classic editor” vs the new fangled one. Otherwise, I can see where the interface of the new editor has been “streamlined” I’d guess they’d call it? I’m sure others might say it was dumbed down as well. For myself, the jury is still out since I do all my “blogging” to my 9 year old self hosted WordPress powered blog which still retains the “classic” version of the editor. I can’t say I dislike the new interface though. On first use it’s strangely appealing but maybe I’m just getting older and prefer things to be more simple and less distracting/complicated than they use to be.
Either way, the “beep beep boop” has definitely got to go. Unless the WordPress devs have suddenly developed a craving to cater to 12 year olds. 😉
So it’s been WordPress.com and 130 posts or so and now it’s time to move into my own WordPress install. Kinda’ like moving from an apartment into your first home which means all the problems of ownership (except at the server end of things) are now mine but on the other hand…I can fix them as well.
It also makes me free to mess things up as I see fit thus giving me badly needed training on what not to do when configuring my own blog site and for any readers I might have, a whole lot of laughs.
So for awhile I’ll put the first part of a new post here with a link to the new site and after the new site’s rank is back up I’ll stop doing that as well. This post will always be at the top.
Meanwhile, here’s the link to the new home of “Just Thinkin”:
All past post have already been transferred over but like in any move some things get left behind and as such, all the previous comments seem to have evaporated into thin virtual air. Such is life. Plenty of time for more comments on this, that, and the other thing.
Many thanks to WordPress.com for hosting this small portion of my life.
I have noticed, as life goes on, that there are certain items that one may acquire over time that if left unused, become basically useless for anything else even if the item is of high quality or just looks nice.
Sorry for the absence all, been very busy and very sick at the same time. Hate that when that happens but life doesn’t stop because of a sniffle or cough or near death or whatever.
One of the things I’ve been busy with is the moving of my main blog from WordPress.com to a WordPress install at Bluehost.
I know this sounds like a plug for my old blog but please remember this LJ blog is mainly for testing purposes for PFF and WLW though it’s been good since it has enabled me to check out all the differences between 4 different types of blog hosts and now a “hosting your own” type as well. Very scary indeed!
I like to post a few pictures of around townwhen I get a chance to snap a few and a perfect day came this weekend while I was running a few errands last Friday. I had the day off in observance of Veteran’s day (one of the very few holidays my company shuts down for) and when I’m going to places like the post office and a couple of the downtown stores I usually park at the parking lot by the lake and walk to the various places I need to go since they’re all situated on or near the small Main st.
Once again, it’s moving time but instead of moving the whole household across town like we did last year or her quilting business into an honest to goodness storefront in town this year, this time it’s her long standing www.longmeadowfarms.com website to a new host (BlueHost). Although this move may not involve a whole lot of back breaking labor, it does involve a whole lot of trepidation. This venerable website has been around for nearly ten years now (which is akin to saying the house we live in has been around for nearly 100 years now) and thrived for several years, been lost, got found, resuscitated and is well on it’s way up the ranks once again so it may be understandable why I feel like we’re handling some very fragile collectible that you definitely don’t want to drop. That’s me of course. I’m sure my honey thinks it’s just another walk in the park. After all, it’s not the first time it’s been moved but hopefully it’s the last.
